The decision follows several months of anticipation, with the company hinting at its interest in Bitcoin payments as early as March.

In its official announcement, Steak ‘N Shake confirmed,
“We are excited to announce that starting May 16, all locations will accept Bitcoin payments, offering our more than 100 million customers the ability to pay using BTC.”
The announcement signals a significant step toward adopting cryptocurrency and teases the possibility of broader crypto integration in the future. The company concluded its message with the cryptic line, “The movement is just beginning…,” suggesting that other cryptocurrencies might also be supported.
Steak ‘N Shake operates around 393 locations across the U.S., with approximately 20% of its branches in Florida, totalling 79 locations. Starting May 16, all these outlets will be ready to accept Bitcoin payments, marking a significant shift for the fast-food chain.
Interestingly, the announcement comes just a day after Bitcoin crossed the $100,000 threshold for the first time since February 2025. As of the latest data, Bitcoin is trading at $103,017, reflecting a 4.16% increase in value.
The idea of Bitcoin payments at Steak ‘N Shake first surfaced on March 8, when the company posted a poll asking followers whether the restaurant should embrace Bitcoin. The question sparked significant attention, including a response from former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who replied, “yes.”
Further building anticipation, Steak ‘N Shake took to Twitter on March 13 with a playful post featuring an intergalactic spaceship delivering beef tallow to Mars, adorned with a giant Bitcoin logo. This whimsical post seemed to signal the company’s commitment to bringing cryptocurrency into its operations.
