Quick Breakdown:
- Bitlayer adopts Chainlink’s CCIP to power secure cross-chain Bitcoin DeFi.
- YBTC expands yield-bearing BTC across Ethereum, BSC, Avalanche, and more.
- Strategic mining pool partnerships boost liquidity and BTCFi adoption.
Bitlayer, the Bitcoin infrastructure project driving BTC-focused decentralized finance (DeFi), has completed its migration to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). The upgrade establishes CCIP as Bitlayer’s canonical cross-chain infrastructure, enabling secure and scalable movement of assets across blockchain networks.

Boosting cross-chain Bitcoin DeFi
The migration allows Bitlayer to support cross-chain transfers for its native BTR token alongside major assets such as USDC, USDT, ETH, and wstETH. The project’s next milestone will focus on YBTC, a yield-bearing, multichain representation of Bitcoin. Built on BitVM’s optimistic validation scheme, YBTC enables Bitcoin holders to mint a trust-minimized wrapped BTC, opening new avenues for Bitcoin-based yield opportunities.
Already, YBTC.B, Bitlayer’s first iteration is live on Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Avalanche, and Plume via CCIP, giving users access to yield products across multiple networks. Expansion to additional chains is planned, with the BitVM Bridge set to prioritize further cross-chain deployments.
Chainlink security backbone
By adopting Chainlink’s standard for interoperability, Bitlayer significantly enhances liquidity while ensuring battle-tested security. CCIP, powered by Chainlink’s decentralized oracle networks, secures transactions with defense-in-depth infrastructure, the same framework that has enabled over $25 trillion in onchain transaction value.
The integration also provides developers with reliable tools such as Transporter, XSwap, and Interport for bridging assets. This strengthens Bitlayer’s position as a hub for BTCFi applications, combining Bitcoin’s security with cross-chain flexibility.
Industry leaders view this step as pivotal for Bitcoin DeFi. Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs, said the migration “unlocks a new wave of BTCFi innovation.” Bitlayer co-founder Kevin He added that adopting Chainlink’s CCIP standard will “bring liquidity to Bitlayer and empower builders to scale BTCFi.”
Bitlayer is also bolstering adoption through strategic partnerships, recently securing collaborations with three of the world’s largest Bitcoin mining pools. Together, the integrations and alliances place the project at the forefront of Bitcoin-native DeFi, connecting BTC liquidity with the wider multichain economy.
