The US government has moved about $103 million in Bitcoin and BNB, but the transfers have not confirmed a sale. The move caught traders’ attention because 833.6 BTC, worth about $71.6 million, went to Coinbase Prime. Another 40,285 BNB, worth about $31.6 million, moved through several wallets.
The tracked government-linked wallets still hold about $27.4 billion in crypto, including roughly 324,000 BTC. The move is small compared with the government’s total holdings, but traders still watch these wallets because a sale could add short-term supply.
The key issue is what the Coinbase Prime transfer actually means. Coinbase Prime provides custody and trading services, so sending BTC there does not prove that the government has sold it. That is why traders are reacting in different ways.

Traders see the same wallet move in different ways
Some traders see the Coinbase move as a warning. If the BTC is later sold, the market could face extra selling pressure while Bitcoin trades near $84,000. One reaction to Wu Blockchain’s post joked that the market may have turned red because of the government move.

Another trader took the opposite view. A response from Darkink noted that $103 million is less than 1% of the government’s roughly $27.5 billion crypto holdings. The trader argued that Coinbase Prime and the new BNB wallet could point to custody rather than an immediate sale.
$103 million in seized BTC and BNB moving looks loud until you see it is under 1 percent of a $27.5 billion pile.
Coinbase Prime and a fresh wallet read more like custody than a dump. Do you fade the selloff fear or respect the dip under $84k?

That divide among traders matters because crypto markets often react to what traders think may happen before there is proof. A wallet transfer can create fear even without a market sale. In this case, the strongest signal is still the movement itself, not evidence of a completed sale.
The US government’s Bitcoin policy also makes the story harder to read. A March 2025 executive order created a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and said Bitcoin placed in that reserve should not be sold. Other seized digital assets are handled under a separate stockpile framework. The type and legal status of each asset can therefore matter as much as the transfer destination.

The move comes as US crypto policy changes
Government wallet activity has become more important for traders because this move occurs as US crypto policy becomes more tied to trading, custody, and derivatives.
That change was reflected in a recent post from Aster CEO Leonard. After meeting Eric Trump at the KBW 2026 launch party, Leonard said the US is moving from enforcement toward more workable crypto rules, including leverage and derivatives. His comment does not link the wallet move to the policy shift, but it shows how crypto firms are reading Washington’s direction.
A very insightful discussion today with @EricTrump.
The trend is becoming clear. The U.S. is moving from enforcement toward more workable regulatory paths for crypto markets, including leverage and derivatives. It is a positive step for our broader compliance strategy across global markets.

Aster has also expanded its perpetual markets and worked with World Liberty Financial earlier this year. That leaves traders watching policy, large wallets and trading venues at the same time.
The next step is to watch whether the 833.6 BTC moves again, whether Coinbase confirms any sale, and whether the BNB reaches a known trading or custody wallet. Until that happens, calling the $103 million transfer a government sell-off goes beyond the evidence. The move is important, but the final destination may tell a better story.
