Samsung Bans Employee Use of Generative AI Tools Over Data Security Concerns

Samsung Bans Employee Use of Generative AI Tools Over Data Security Concerns

Last updated on March 25th, 2026 at 11:10 pm

Samsung has banned its employees from using generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as ChatGPT, in their workflow and office routines. This decision came after some engineers uploaded sensitive company information to the ChatGPT platform.

An internal memo obtained by Bloomberg stated that Samsung is concerned about the security risks presented by generative AI. The company implemented the ban solely for the use of generative AI systems on its internal networks and devices, such as company-owned computers, tablets, and phones. However, this restriction does not apply to Samsung’s consumer devices, such as Android smartphones and Windows laptops.

Samsung also instructed its staff who use ChatGPT and other similar tools on their personal devices to refrain from submitting any company-related information or personal data that could reveal Samsung’s intellectual property. Any violation of the new guidelines may lead to the termination of employment.

We ask that you diligently adhere to our security guideline, and failure to do so may result in a breach or compromise of company information resulting in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment,

the company stated.

Bloomberg reported that it is still unclear what the uploaded information contained, and a Samsung spokesperson declined to provide any further details.

Samsung conducted a survey before announcing the ban regarding using AI tools internally. The survey revealed that 65% of the participants perceive such services as a security threat. Despite the ban, the company is currently developing its own AI tools for document translation, summarization, and software development while also devising methods to prevent the transfer of sensitive information to external services.

The company is evaluating security protocols to establish a secure environment for utilizing generative AI to improve employee productivity and efficiency. In the internal memo, Samsung noted that although there is a widespread “interest in the usefulness and efficiency of these platforms, there are also growing concerns about security risks presented by generative AI.”
