Gate Reports 122% Reserve Ratio in Latest Proof of Reserves Update

Gate has released its latest Proof of Reserves report, showing an overall reserve ratio of 122% as of March, signalling a continued surplus of assets held against user deposits across its platform.

Proof of Reserves (PoR) is a method exchanges use to prove they hold enough Bitcoin to fully back user deposits. It works by comparing customer balances (liabilities) with on-chain holdings using tools such as Merkle trees, allowing users to verify that their funds are included. This improves transparency and helps prevent misuse of funds, but it has limits since it only shows a snapshot in time and doesn’t reveal the exchange’s full financial health.

The report covers nearly 500 cryptocurrencies, reflecting the exchange’s effort to maintain excess reserves as a buffer against market volatility and user withdrawal demands.

Core crypto holdings show strong reserve coverage

For Bitcoin, user balances stood at 17,216 BTC, while platform reserves reached 25,404 BTC, resulting in an excess reserve ratio of 47.56%, up from previous levels. Ethereum holdings also increased, with user assets rising to 358,121 ETH and reserves climbing to 439,611 ETH, translating to a 22.75% surplus.

Stablecoin reserves remained above the 100% benchmark, though with narrower margins. Tether holdings totalled 1.451 billion tokens against reserves of 1.477 billion, while USD Coin showed a reserve ratio of 110.18%. Gemini Dollar posted a significantly higher buffer, with reserves nearly tripling user holdings.

These figures indicate that Gate continues to maintain full backing for user assets, with additional reserves across major cryptocurrencies and stablecoins.

Broader asset coverage reinforces platform stability

Beyond core assets, other tokens such as GateToken and XRP also recorded reserve ratios above 100%, further strengthening the exchange’s overall financial position.

Proof of Reserves has become a standard transparency measure across the crypto industry, allowing users to verify that exchanges hold sufficient assets to cover liabilities. Gate’s latest report suggests a continued focus on maintaining overcollateralization, particularly as market conditions remain uncertain.

The exchange said its reserve framework is designed to ensure liquidity, support withdrawals, and provide confidence in asset security across its global user base.

Notably, Gate has expanded its crypto payment solution, Gate Pay, into Nigeria, Mexico, Mongolia, and Laos, accelerating its push to embed digital assets into everyday transactions across emerging and frontier markets.
