Hashgraph Group Unveils TrackTrace to Help Firms Meet EU Digital Product Passport Rules

Swiss tech firm The Hashgraph Group has introduced TrackTrace, a compliance-focused supply chain platform built on the Hedera network, as European companies brace for sweeping product transparency rules under the EU’s Digital Product Passport framework.

Built for Europe’s new compliance era

TrackTrace is designed to help companies capture and verify product-level data from carbon emissions and sourcing details to durability and reparability metrics in a format aligned with the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).

The ESPR, which took effect on July 18, 2024, lays the foundation for Digital Product Passports (DPPs), a system that standardizes how key product data is recorded and shared across supply chains. The first major checkpoint will be the EU’s battery passport requirement under the EU Battery Regulation, which becomes mandatory on February 18, 2027, for certain electric-vehicle and industrial batteries above 2 kilowatt-hours.

TrackTrace uses distributed ledger technology to create verifiable audit trails that cannot be altered retroactively. According to the company, artificial intelligence tools embedded within the platform help automate compliance workflows, reducing manual reporting burdens for enterprises navigating increasingly complex regulatory frameworks.

The push is anchored in the European Green Deal, which targets a 55% emissions reduction by 2030 and climate neutrality by 2050 under the European Climate Act.

Identity, audit trails and enterprise partnerships

Beyond traceability, TrackTrace integrates The Hashgraph Group’s decentralized identity solution, IDTrust, enabling companies to issue verifiable credentials that link physical supply-chain events to digital records in a tamper-resistant environment.

Hedera markets itself as one of the most energy-efficient public distributed ledger technologies and is governed by a council of major global enterprises, including Google, IBM, Dell and Deutsche Telekom.

The Hashgraph Group said it is also collaborating with PwC to support enterprise-level Digital Product Passport implementations. In October, The Hashgraph group introduced AssetGuard, a purpose-built enterprise wallet designed to secure, govern, and manage digital assets at scale.

TrackTrace enters a competitive landscape that includes blockchain-based traceability solutions such as IBM Sterling Transparent Supply and TrusTrace, as well as other sector-specific platforms targeting batteries and circular economy use cases.
