Revolut Launches EURR as Its First Euro-Backed Stablecoin

Revolut has launched EURR, its first euro-backed stablecoin, giving eligible customers a way to move between euros, crypto assets, external wallets and supported blockchain networks through an on-chain payment rail. EURR is designed to maintain a value of €1 and is backed by reserves managed by its EU-licensed issuer in accordance with the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework.

EURR is being issued by Bridge Building S.A., a MiCA-regulated crypto-asset service provider and electronic money institution supervised by Luxembourg’s CSSF. At the same time, Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd offers the stablecoin under its own MiCA authorization from Cyprus’ CySEC. Revolut said EURR will initially be available to eligible customers, with wider availability expected later this year.

Revolut said it is already developing stablecoins linked to other currencies, suggesting EURR is intended as the starting point for a larger network of currency-denominated digital assets rather than a standalone product.

Why are euro stablecoins still so small compared with dollar tokens?

EURR is entering a growing but still small euro-stablecoin market. The combined market capitalization of eight MiCA-compliant euro stablecoins rose from $295.6 million to $673.9 million, a 128% increase over the period tracked by DECTA. Yet that is still a fraction of the overall stablecoin market, which recently passed $300 billion.

The comparison with existing products also shows where EURR starts. Circle’s EURC already has around 390 million tokens in circulation and a market value of roughly $461 million. At the same time, its availability across multiple blockchains gives it an established position in on-chain markets.

Additionally, Europe’s regulatory framework is creating stronger demand for compliant euro-denominated alternatives as platforms reduce their reliance on non-compliant stablecoins.

Revolut may turn EURR into a payment network, not just another stablecoin

The company says it now serves more than 80 million customers globally, including more than 16 million crypto users. It also allows customers to send money to more than 160 countries and hold multiple currencies within the same app.

That gives EURR a different starting point from many crypto-native stablecoins. Revolut could introduce the token to existing customers who already use its platform for international transfers, currency exchange, and crypto.

If EURR eventually becomes a way to move euros between Revolut accounts, external wallets, and blockchain applications, its value could come from the transactions around it rather than from how much EURR is held.

Meanwhile, Revolut has taken another step toward launching cryptocurrency services in the United Arab Emirates after receiving in-principle approval from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA).
