Bybit Engages Singapore Regulator After Investor Alert List Inclusion

Bybit said it is engaging with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) after learning that Bybit Fintech Limited had been added to the regulator’s Investor Alert List.

The exchange said it is looking to better understand the basis for the listing and stressed that it has maintained measures designed to prevent access by Singapore users.

According to Bybit, these measures include explicit restrictions in its terms of service and geo-blocking of Singapore IP addresses. The company added that it does not offer services to users in Singapore and remains committed to working constructively with regulators around the world.

MAS places Bybit on investor warning list

The response came days after MAS added Bybit Fintech Limited to its Investor Alert List on June 17. The list identifies entities that may be wrongly perceived as being licensed, authorised, regulated, or otherwise approved by MAS.

MAS states that the list serves as a consumer protection tool and does not necessarily mean that an entity has violated the law. The regulator also notes that the list is not exhaustive and is based on information available at the time of publication.

The development places one of the world’s largest crypto exchanges under fresh regulatory attention in a jurisdiction known for maintaining some of the strictest standards for digital asset firms operating in Asia.

Focus moves to how exchanges enforce restrictions

The case shows growing regulatory attention on how crypto platforms control access to their services. Beyond licensing requirements, regulators are increasingly checking whether exchanges can effectively prevent users from restricted jurisdictions from accessing their products.

For other crypto exchanges, the move sends a clear message that compliance is no longer just about policy statements. Regulators are paying closer attention to how firms implement geo-blocking, customer verification, and access controls in practice. Platforms that cannot demonstrate effective enforcement may face increased scrutiny, reputational challenges, or restrictions in key markets as authorities strengthen oversight of the digital asset industry.

In another development, Bybit has deepened its foothold in Malaysia through a strategic investment in Hata, a licensed local crypto platform. This also shows a dual-track strategy that strengthens compliance while accelerating growth through partnerships.
