The Royal Government of Bhutan has moved 490.87 Bitcoin worth about $32.74 million to fresh wallets, extending a series of large BTC transfers from state-linked addresses in 2026.
Blockchain analytics platform Onchain Lens reported that the latest activity included a 485 BTC transfer valued at about $32.31 million. The recipient wallets were not identified as exchanges or trading firms, leaving the purpose of the movement unclear.

Bhutan’s bitcoin transfers continue to accelerate
The latest transfer follows an August 18 movement of 300 BTC worth about $19.28 million to a new wallet, according to Lookonchain. The tracker described that transaction as a sale, although the coins initially moved to an unidentified address.
That distinction matters because blockchain transfers alone do not prove a sale. Bhutan-linked Bitcoin has previously moved through unidentified wallets before reaching counterparties such as Binance and QCP Capital, making the eventual destination more useful for determining whether coins were liquidated or simply reorganized.
Bhutan’s identified holdings have declined substantially from a peak of more than 13,000 BTC in October 2024. Arkham data cited in the supplied records showed 4,453 BTC in government-linked wallets by March 25, although wallet labels can change as ownership becomes harder to attribute.
Why does Bhutan keep moving its bitcoin?
Bhutan’s activity reflects a different sovereign Bitcoin strategy from governments whose holdings largely come from seizures. Its Bitcoin position was built through state-backed mining powered by the country’s hydropower resources, with Druk Holding & Investments overseeing much of the operation.
The distinction is important because transfers can serve several purposes, including treasury management, custody arrangements, operational funding or eventual sales. Bhutan also announced in December 2025 that up to 10,000 BTC would support the development of Gelephu Mindfulness City.
That strategy is now taking a more institutional form. On July 30, 3iQ secured a mandate to manage part of Gelephu’s Bitcoin treasury, while committing to local talent development and knowledge transfer.

What happens next?
Transfers to exchanges or identifiable trading counterparties would provide stronger evidence of potential liquidation, while movements between controlled or custody-related wallets could indicate treasury restructuring.
For investors tracking sovereign Bitcoin activity, Bhutan’s wallet balance alone is therefore becoming less informative. The destination and subsequent transaction flow will determine whether the latest move represents a reduction in exposure or another step in the country’s evolving Bitcoin treasury strategy.
Meanwhile, Gelephu Mindfulness City introduced a fast-track licensing system aimed at attracting globally regulated firms, including digital asset companies. The new framework is designed to speed up approvals by combining regulatory review and banking access into a single streamlined process, allowing qualified businesses to move more quickly from application to full operations.
