X has launched its new “Smart Cashtags” feature for iPhone users in the US and Canada. This move brings the platform closer to Elon Musk’s vision of an “everything app.” According to X Head of Product Nikita Bier, the tool lets users see real-time financial data for stocks and cryptocurrencies right in their timeline.
This feature makes it easier to track assets. When users type a cashtag like $BTC or a smart contract address, X suggests the right stock or crypto ticker. Tapping a cashtag brings up a price chart and a feed of related market discussions, so investors can follow price changes without leaving the app.

Seamless trading via Wealthsimple
X has teamed up with Canadian brokerage Wealthsimple for a pilot program that connects social discussion with trading. Now, Canadian users see a trading button on cashtag pages, which takes them straight to Wealthsimple to complete their orders. Bier called this a “small preview” and said the goal is to make trading easy on a platform where people make big financial decisions based on what they see in their timeline.
Right now, only iOS users in North America can use Smart Cashtags, but X says it will bring the feature to Android, web, and other countries “very soon.” This launch comes after X recently introduced X Money, its money transfer service built with Visa.
Expanding the “everything app” ecosystem
Smart Cashtags is part of X’s bigger plan to expand its financial services, including the upcoming “X Money” platform, which aims to compete with companies like PayPal. By adding market data and trading to its main social feed, X wants to be the main place for both traditional and decentralized finance communities.
Industry observers note that this model mirrors popular Asian “super apps,” which make it easier for users to go from reading information to making transactions. This change comes as other big companies like Coinbase are also looking for ways to boost crypto adoption by connecting it with traditional financial services.
