Komainu, a regulated digital asset custodian backed by Laser Digital, has raised $75 million in a Series B funding round led by Blockstream Capital Partners.
The funding aims to accelerate Komainu’s global growth and integrate Blockstream’s technologies, which are pending regulatory approvals.
Investing in Bitcoin while employing hedging mechanisms allows Komainu to establish its own Bitcoin treasury. The funds generated will be utilized to improve its collateral management and tokenization solutions. This includes a significant upgrade to Komainu Connect, the firm’s off-exchange margining and settlement platform. By utilizing Blockstream’s Liquid Network, settlement times will be reduced from hours to minutes, setting a new standard for efficiency.
Blockstream’s AMP technology will enable Komainu to automate regulated asset support for tokenization and create trustless trading systems. The partnership will also integrate Blockstream’s enterprise HSM wallet technology, enhancing Komainu’s bank-grade digital asset offerings for institutional clients.
Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream, highlighted that Komainu’s adoption of its technologies demonstrates the increasing acceptance of Bitcoin-related innovations in institutional markets. He pointed out that the partnership exemplifies how the Lightning and Liquid Networks can transform the financial services sector.
Paul Frost-Smith, co-CEO of Komainu and a new member of its board of directors, described the collaboration as transformative, stating that it will enhance Komainu’s position as a leading provider of secure and innovative digital asset services. He also noted that partnering with a visionary company like Blockstream underscores Komainu’s commitment to promoting institutional adoption of Bitcoin and blockchain technologies.
Meanwhile, Komainu now provides custody support for uMINT, the first tokenized investment fund by UBS Asset Management, distributed via DigiFT. The partnership offers uMINT holders secure custody solutions through Komainu’s advanced security framework. uMINT is an Ethereum-based money market investment that utilizes high-quality instruments within a risk-managed framework. Investors can subscribe via DigiFT with their preferred custody wallets, benefiting from real-time redemption and contributing to the growth of tokenized investments and digital asset adoption.
