Ripple Clears Final MiCA Hurdle in Luxembourg, Opens 30 Country EU Payments Door

Ripple has secured final authorization of its Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), completing its Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) requirements and enabling fully regulated crypto-asset services across all 30 European Economic Area (EEA) states.

The move, confirmed on 6 July 2026, follows a preliminary “Green Light Letter” in late June and positions Ripple among a small cohort of firms with full MiCA clearance as the EU’s transitional window closes.

What does the license unlocks and why it matters now

This approval will work alongside Ripple’s existing Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence in Europe. By combining these licences, the company will be able to offer payments, stablecoin infrastructure, asset exchange services, and settlement tools through a single regulated framework.

Ripple noted that the step will help banks, fintech firms, and corporate clients access its digital asset infrastructure more easily as global demand for blockchain financial services grows.

How does the European expansion link to global operations?

The expansion in Europe matches Ripple’s operational progress in other major digital asset markets. While securing its foundations in the EEA, the company has officially launched its U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, in Japan. The launch follows approval from the Japan Financial Services Agency (JFSA), a significant step in the company’s global stablecoin expansion strategy.

This gives both retail and institutional users in Japan direct access to RLUSD through the VCTRADE platform. The launch completes a rollout plan first announced in August 2025, when Ripple and SBI Group signed a memorandum of understanding naming SBI VC Trade as the local distribution partner.

Who else is expanding under Europe’s new regulatory register?

Licensing has become important for firms trying to anchor themselves in Europe since the transitional period for regional rules concluded. Traditional and digital institutions are moving onto official registers to secure market access. For instance, ESMA recently added 37 new MiCA-licensed crypto firms to its registry, pushing the total authorized service providers across the EU to 281.

Among these latest additions, Standard Chartered secured its own MiCA authorization via Luxembourg, showing that compliance is now the baseline for institutional crypto adoption across major economic blocs.
