US Presidential Elections: 73% of US Crypto Owners Say Candidate's Position Will Influence Their Vote

A significant shift is occurring in the U.S. political landscape, with cryptocurrency emerging as a crucial campaign issue for the first time in a presidential election, according to Gemini’s latest “Global State of Crypto” report released today, September 10, 2024.

The report is based on a survey of a random sample of the consumer population in five countries in the U.S., the United Kingdom, France, Singapore, and Turkey, and it highlights the growing influence of crypto on voter decision-making.

The survey found that 73% of U.S. respondents stated a candidate’s stance on crypto would have “some impact” on their vote, while 37% indicated it would have a “significant impact.” This data underscores the increasing importance of cryptocurrency policy in shaping voter preferences.

Despite rising concerns about regulatory uncertainty, the report shows a trend towards increased crypto adoption in the U.S. The percentage of respondents without cryptocurrency exposure decreased from 75% in 2022 to 65% in 2024. Concurrently, the number of cryptocurrency holders slightly increased from 20% to 21%, while past owners surged from 5% to 14%.

These findings contrast with some previous reports, such as the U.S. Federal Reserve’s Survey of Household Economics and Decision-making, which suggested a decline in crypto usage among U.S. adults from 12% in 2021 to 7% in 2023.

The Gemini report’s results also align with a statement made by Tyler Winklevoss, Co-founder of Gemini, on June 20, 2024. He asserted that most U.S. crypto owners plan to consider presidential candidates’ stances on crypto regulation in the upcoming November election.

As the U.S. approaches its next presidential election, these findings indicate that cryptocurrency policy could play a pivotal role in shaping voter decisions, marking a new era in American politics where digital asset regulation becomes a key campaign issue.
