United States Senator Elizabeth Warren is reportedly expressing concern about the potential candidacy of pro-XRP lawyer John E. Deaton for her Massachusetts Senate seat, according to a post by Fox Business Analyst Eleanor Terrett on X.
Terrett’s post refers to an email from Senator Warren’s campaign, which suggests that she is mobilizing her donor base in response to a Boston Globe report about the possibility of John Deaton running for the Senate seat currently held by Warren. While Terrett did not disclose her source for the email, she mentioned that Warren has been speculating about Deaton’s potential candidacy in the upcoming election.
The Boston Globe report, published on February 14, indicates that Deaton is seriously considering running against Senator Warren, citing two insiders from the Republican party who claim to have direct knowledge of his intentions. The report noted that two insiders suggest he is actively exploring the possibility and will make a decision soon.
In the email screenshot shared by Terrett, Senator Warren urges her supporters to contribute to her campaign as they prepare to battle Deaton, who might get potential funding from prominent special interests, the Republican party, and Wall Street in addition to his personal funds. She emphasized her commitment to ensuring that the cryptocurrency industry adheres to “basic regulations all banks and other financial institutions follow,” and this has made her a target for crypto lobby groups.

While Deaton has not officially declared his candidacy for the senatorial position, his profile as a lawyer and vocal supporter of Ripple’s XRP could become a significant factor if he decides to contest against the Democrat Senator.
Deaton is well-known for his active involvement in the crypto space, particularly for his support of Ripple’s XRP in its legal battle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). He recently criticized the SEC for how it handled the lawsuit against DEBT Box, a crypto project charged by the regulator, in August 2023.
