South Korean crypto exchange Upbit will add trading support for Ripple USD (RLUSD), expanding access to Ripple’s stablecoin in one of the world’s most active digital asset markets.
According to the exchange, RLUSD trading against the Korean won (KRW), Bitcoin (BTC) and Tether (USDT) is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. Korea Standard Time on July 28, provided enough market liquidity is available.

Deposits and withdrawals are expected to open within two hours of the announcement. However, Upbit will only support RLUSD issued on the XRP Ledger, excluding Ethereum and other supported blockchain versions.
Upbit opens RLUSD trading with temporary restrictions
Upbit said it will introduce several safeguards during the launch to reduce volatility and improve market stability.
Buy orders will be restricted for about five minutes after trading begins, while sell orders priced more than 10% below the previous day’s closing price will also be blocked during the same period. For roughly the first two hours, only limit orders will be accepted, with market and conditional orders remaining unavailable.
The exchange also noted that trading could be delayed if liquidity does not meet its internal requirements.
To deposit RLUSD, users must transfer tokens only through the XRP Ledger using Ripple’s official issuer account and provide the correct destination tag. Deposits sent through unsupported networks, including Ethereum, will not be accepted and could require a lengthy recovery process. Upbit also reminded users that transfers must comply with South Korea’s Travel Rule requirements.
How the listing strengthen the XRP Ledger ecosystem
The listing highlights Ripple’s continued focus on the XRP Ledger as the primary network for RLUSD activity. While the stablecoin is available on multiple blockchains, Upbit’s decision to support only the XRP Ledger version means holders on Ethereum must first swap or bridge their tokens before making deposits.
RLUSD remains close to its intended US dollar peg, with a circulating supply of more than 1.5 billion tokens. Ripple says the stablecoin is fully backed by cash and highly liquid short-term assets held in segregated reserve accounts, with monthly third-party reserve reports published to verify its backing.
Ripple also secured final authorization of its Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), completing its MiCA requirements and enabling fully regulated crypto-asset services across all 30 European Economic Area (EEA) states.
What the listing could mean for Ripple in South Korea
The Upbit listing builds Ripple’s presence in South Korea, where XRP has consistently ranked among the country’s most actively traded cryptocurrencies. RLUSD was already available on Coinone, but listing on Upbit significantly expands its exposure to Korean retail traders.
The move could also improve liquidity between South Korea’s domestic crypto market and global stablecoin trading, while giving RLUSD another major venue to grow trading activity on the XRP Ledger. Early trading volume and order book depth will be closely watched as indicators of demand following the launch.
