Swedbank Increases Strategy Holdings to 90,590 Shares, Growing Indirect Bitcoin Exposure

Swedbank AB has increased its investment in Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ: MSTR), adding 8,278 shares to bring its total holdings to 90,590 shares, according to the bank’s latest disclosed position.

This shows a buying trend that has continued over several quarters and shows how traditional financial institutions are gaining exposure to Bitcoin through Strategy rather than holding the cryptocurrency directly.

Strategy is the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin and under Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, the company has built its business around accumulating BTC, making its stock a popular choice for institutions looking for exposure to Bitcoin’s price movements.

Swedbank continues to increase its Strategy position

Swedbank’s latest purchase follows a series of steady additions over the past year. In November 2025, the bank reported holding 79,144 Strategy shares valued at about $20 million. By May 2026, its position had increased to 82,312 shares after acquiring an additional 2,852 shares.

The latest filing shows another increase of 8,278 shares, lifting the bank’s total holdings to 90,590 shares.

The bank has also made larger purchases in the past. One earlier quarterly filing showed it added 19,242 Strategy shares in a single reporting period, demonstrating its willingness to expand its position when needed.

Why are banks buying Strategy shares instead of Bitcoin?

Strategy has become one of the most widely used public companies for institutions seeking indirect exposure to Bitcoin.

Rather than purchasing and storing BTC directly, investors can gain exposure by owning Strategy shares, whose value is closely linked to the company’s large Bitcoin treasury.

For regulated banks such as Swedbank, this approach avoids the operational and regulatory challenges associated with holding digital assets. Strategy shares can be bought, held and reported like any other listed equity through existing investment and custody systems.

What does Swedbank’s latest purchase show?

The bank’s consistent accumulation of Strategy shares over multiple quarters suggests a continued interest in Bitcoin exposure through traditional financial markets.

Its holdings have grown from 79,144 shares in late 2025 to 90,590 shares in the latest disclosure, indicating a gradual increase rather than a one-time investment.

Meanwhile, Strategy’s market valuation has dropped below the value of its Bitcoin holdings for the first time, raising new concerns about investor confidence in the company’s long-running cryptocurrency strategy.
