Lazarus Group Moves $64M ETH From Harmony Hack

According to a recent report, the Lazarus Group, a state-sponsored hacking group with ties to North Korea, has been moving large amounts of Ethereum obtained through the Harmony Bridge hack

The group stole an estimated $40 million worth of Ethereum from the blockchain platform during the hack, which occurred in June 2022.

Blockchain sleuth, ZachXBT, revealed that the group used the crypto mixing service Tornado Cash and the smart contract privacy platform Railgun to conceal the trail of the stolen funds.

Railgun utilizes a technique known as zero-knowledge proofs to hide transaction details, making it difficult for authorities to trace the movement of the funds.

However, ZachXBT was able to trace the movement of the funds through more than 350 addresses and found that around 41,000 ETH worth approximately $63.5 million was sent through Railgun before being deposited on three different exchanges. The specific exchanges used were not specified.

A comprehensive report published by blockchain analysis provider Elliptic delved into the details of the attack. It highlighted the tactics used by Lazarus to evade detection, showing that the group has become highly skilled in transferring illegal cryptocurrency funds and evading detection by authorities.
