Rakuten Wallet to Launch Physical SHIB Coin as Exchange Expands Token Promotion

Japanese cryptocurrency exchange and wallet provider Rakuten Wallet has announced plans to create a physical commemorative coin based on Shiba Inu (SHIB), extending its series of crypto-themed collectible coins.

The company revealed the project in a social media post, stating that the SHIB coin is currently in production and will join its existing collection, which features Bitcoin, Ether, and XRP. Rakuten Wallet said the coins have been well-received at industry events and exhibition booths where they were previously displayed. The SHIB-themed coin follows the exchange’s recent decision to add support for the token, one of the largest meme-based cryptocurrencies by market value.

SHIB campaign launched alongside coin project

Alongside the coin announcement, Rakuten Wallet introduced a promotional campaign aimed at encouraging trading activity on its platform.

Under the offer, users who trade at least 30,000 yen worth of spot cryptocurrencies can receive 500,000 SHIB tokens. Customers who trade more than 100,000 yen in cryptocurrencies can receive an additional 1 million SHIB tokens.

The company said the campaign is available through its platform and is tied to the recent launch of SHIB trading services.

Exchanges increasingly use token communities to attract users

The decision shows how exchanges are increasingly using popular crypto communities to attract new customers and boost trading activity.

SHIB remains one of the most recognised meme cryptocurrencies globally, with a large retail investor base in Japan and overseas. Several exchanges have launched token-specific promotions, trading contests and rewards programmes around SHIB in recent years due to its strong online following.

For exchanges, such campaigns can generate trading volume while helping newly listed assets gain visibility among users. The launch of a physical SHIB coin also shows the effort by crypto companies to build brand recognition beyond digital products by creating collectibles, merchandise and event-based marketing tied to well-known tokens.

Rakuten Wallet has not announced a release date for the physical SHIB coin but said it is continuing production and plans to announce the finished product alongside its existing Bitcoin, Ether and XRP collectibles.

Notably, Rakuten Wallet launched a new social media campaign that will reward participants with Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Dogecoin (DOGE), bringing meme coins into a consumer-focused marketing initiative aimed at pet owners and crypto users alike.
