Aptos, a Layer 1 blockchain infrastructure company, has partnered with Google Cloud to power some of its validator nodes.
On a panel at TOKEN2049 London, Simon Baksys, the go-to-market and business development lead for Google’s Web3 division, and Mo Shaikh, co-founder, and CEO of Aptos, spoke about the partnership.
“I believe this is the first time a Web2 and a Web3 company have collaborated in such a significant way,” Shaikh said. Google Cloud, he added, will validate nodes and participate in the Aptos mainnet. The Aptos blockchain will also be indexed, and the queried data will be made available on Google Cloud’s BigQuery service.
This is an extension of Google Cloud’s partnership with Aptos following the blockchain company’s mainnet launch. Google Cloud partnered with Aptos earlier this year to become the blockchain company’s first cloud partner, allowing anyone to power an Aptos blockchain node in less than 15 minutes.
Google and the Aptos Foundation plan to start an accelerator program and hold a hackathon next year to support emerging talent.
“It should be really interesting to see those two worlds cross paths and those projects that want to use both Google and Aptos tools to create something really awesome,” Baksys said. “Undoubtedly, we will continue our quote-unquote global tour and engage with the community as a group.”
Aptos, co-founded by former Meta employees Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, raised $150 million in a funding round led by FTX Ventures and Jump Crypto in July and recently reached a $4 billion valuation following an undisclosed strategic investment from Binance Labs.
The Aptos blockchain employs the Move programming language to expedite transaction execution and provide flexible key management for a more secure user experience.
Aptos has been working on its blockchain for three years, with over 350 developers deployed globally. Its blockchain is intended to be upgradeable and will evolve in response to current and emerging Web3 use cases.
Google Cloud recently launched Blockchain Node Engine, a fully managed node-hosting service designed to reduce the need for node operations.
Since establishing its new digital assets team in January, Google Cloud has been expanding its Web3 presence through partnerships with Fortress Blockchain Technologies to introduce private data storage for NFTs, NEAR to speed up Web3 startups, and Coinbase to implement cryptocurrency payments for cloud services.
