According to Bloomberg, a former executive at Binance has filed a lawsuit in the UK against the crypto exchange, alleging wrongful dismissal after she reported a colleague’s alleged attempt to solicit a bribe from a customer.
Amrita Srivastava, a former senior employee of Binance in London, has testified in an employment tribunal that her dismissal followed her report of a colleague attempting to solicit a bribe from a customer. She alleged that the colleague disguised the payment as consultative services for the customer’s integration into Binance while misrepresenting their affiliation with the company.
Srivastava, who worked remotely for Binance’s Link platform, is now suing Binance Europe Ltd. She reported the bribery incident to her managers in April 2023 but was terminated a month later.
In response to the lawsuit, Binance’s legal team stated that the exchange was aware of the alleged bribery incident and had escalated it internally. They emphasized that Srivastava’s dismissal was due to performance issues, not for whistleblowing. Additionally, a Binance spokesperson clarified that her termination, which was related to her job performance, occurred before she reported the problem. The matter was already under investigation by the company’s internal audit team.
Srivastava expressed the personal and professional harm she claims to have suffered due to her dismissal, stating that it will impact her career for years.
Notably, CEO Changpeng Zhao has issued a warning regarding the legal challenges Binance faces. He recently alerted his 8.9 million followers on X about scammers impersonating him on the platform. Zhao clarified that his official handle is @cz_binance and emphasized that any accounts beginning with “cz,” even those with a blue checkmark, are fraudulent. He identified two fake accounts and urged his followers to report similar profiles. Additionally, he called on X to take more decisive action to combat these fraudulent accounts.
