Changpeng Zhao has once again issued a warning to his 8.9 million followers on X about scammers impersonating him on the platform.
In his latest post, Zhao urged users to be vigilant about fake verified accounts posing as him on X. He clarified that he only operates under the handle @cz_binance, and all other accounts beginning with “cz” are imposters, even if they display a blue verification checkmark.
Zhao specifically identified two fake accounts to avoid and encouraged his followers to report any similar accounts they encountered. He also called on X to improve its efforts to tackle these fraudulent accounts.
This marks the second time the co-founder of Binance has alerted the crypto community about fraudulent activities since his recent release from prison. Earlier this month, he cautioned the X crypto community about deepfake videos circulating on social media, falsely claiming his endorsement of various crypto coins. He noted that he has been a target of scammers attempting to exploit his persona to defraud users.
Meanwhile, following his release from prison in late September, Zhao posted about the experience, expressing relief at having “one piece of fruit per day” during his incarceration. He stated that he plans to “chill for a bit” before deciding on his next steps, adding that
“there are always more opportunities in the future than there were in the past.”
Zhao was sentenced in May after pleading guilty to charges of turning a blind eye to money laundering practices on Binance. He resigned from his post as CEO of the crypto exchange in November 2023.
In a related development, Zhao’s successor as CEO, Richard Teng, recently announced that the exchange is making substantial investments in regulatory compliance. Teng emphasized that these efforts are aimed at building a robust and sustainable platform for Binance’s global user base, as the company continues to prioritize regulatory cooperation in its operations worldwide.
