Bitstamp is a cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2011 by CEO Nejc Kodrič and CTO Damijan Merlak in Slovenia. It is one of the oldest and most well-respected exchanges in the industry and is known for its rigorous security and compliance measures. 

As of January 2023, the exchange has over 5 million registered users and has facilitated over $400 billion in lifetime trading volume.

Bitstamp offers a range of services, including spot trading, margin trading, and OTC trading. It also has a brokerage service that allows users to purchase cryptocurrency with fiat currency, such as USD, EUR, and GBP.

The exchange is regulated by the Luxembourg Financial Industry Supervisory Commission (CSSF) and is a member of the Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT).

Bitstamp charges fees on a maker-taker model based on 30-day trading volume. For trading volume under $1,000, the fees are 0.00%. For trading volume under $10,000, the fees range from 0.30%-0.40% and decrease as trading volume increases. For staking, the exchange charges a 15% commission but no other fees. For deposits and withdrawals, there are fees for debit and credit cards (5% service fee), SEPA (free deposits, 3 EUR withdrawal fee), ACH (free deposits and withdrawals), Faster Payments UK (free deposits, 2 GBP withdrawal fee), international wire (0.05% deposit fee, 0.1% withdrawal fee), and cryptocurrencies (free deposits, withdrawal fees vary by asset).
