Coinbase
A leading digital currency company
ABOUT COINBASE
Coinbase is a cryptocurrency trading and investment platform based in the United States that allows users to easily buy, sell, exchange, and store various digital currencies. It offers both a basic platform for basic transactions and a more advanced platform called Coinbase Pro for professional traders. However, in June 2022, Coinbase announced that Coinbase Pro would be phased out, and all users would have access to the "Advanced Trade" feature on the main app.
Coinbase was founded in 2012 by Brian Armstrong, a former Airbnb engineer, and Fred Ehrsam, a former Goldman Sachs trader. Armstrong currently serves as the CEO of Coinbase, while Ehrsam left the company in 2017 and co-founded a cryptocurrency investment firm called Paradigm.
Coinbase is available in over 100 countries, although some features may be restricted in certain areas. It supports over 150 different cryptocurrencies, including popular options like BTC, ETH, AVAX, and USDT. The platform's exchange fees are based on a maker-taker model, and they range from 0.00% to 0.40% for maker fees and 0.05% to 0.60% for taker fees, depending on the total USD trailing 30-day trading volume.
Additionally, Coinbase charges various fees for depositing and withdrawing fiat currency. In February 2020, it announced that Coinbase Pro customers could access up to 3X leverage on USD-quoted books. However, in November 2020, margin trading was disabled due to changes in the regulatory environment.
