On Tuesday, November 3, the United States held its 2026 midterm elections, and the results immediately shocked the cryptocurrency market. Early counts showed the Democratic Party had control of both houses of Congress. Going into election day, Bitcoin traded above $78,200. The moment the Democratic victory became clear, traders hit the panic button. In just a few hours, massive sell orders pushed Bitcoin down below $76,000, hitting a two-month low.
Yesterday I wrote that two historical bitcoin:native crashes aren’t a trading strategy.
Well, the US midterms are over. And we already have something interesting to look at. 👀
Democrats won control of both the House and Senate.
bitcoin:native dropped below $76K, briefly reaching around $75.7K.And then?
It bounced back above $78K.
Not exactly the straightforward post-election dump those historical charts might have suggested. 😂
But here’s what I find more interesting.A Democratic majority in the House was widely expected. The Senate was less certain.
And now that Democrats have won both chambers, the crypto industry faces a different political environment.Legislation like the CLARITY Act could face a more difficult path. Congressional scrutiny of crypto companies could increase.
Those are real consequences, and they matter beyond today’s price action.
But here’s the thing.
A political outcome that creates uncertainty for the industry doesn’t automatically translate into a sustained BTC selloff.
We saw the initial drop. Then buyers stepped in.Does that mean BTC is bullish now?
The broader market structure hasn’t magically changed overnight, and one strong bounce isn’t enough to confirm a reversal.
Personally, I’m watching whether BTC can hold this recovery and reclaim the next resistance levels.
Because yesterday, everyone was looking at the 2018 and 2022 charts, trying to figure out what would happen next.
Today, we have something much more useful to study.
The actual market reaction.
And so far, it’s been a reminder of why I prefer confirmation over predictions. The first reaction isn’t always the whole story.
What do you think? Was that a meaningful recovery, or are we just watching another temporary bounce?

Social media users debated the sudden crash. On X, @s_akeem questioned the value of political strategies in crypto, noting that despite having a supposedly crypto-friendly president, the CLARITY Act failed the market once Congress flipped.
@cryptorover Then what’s the value of the crypto president to the industry. When they have majority in the Congress, the clarity failed. He only used that tactic for his own benefits Simple

Taking a different view, X commenter @Ebra criticized financial channels for peddling fear, arguing that heavier government restrictions actually clean up the market by removing bad actors.
@cryptorover Channels like this one, which peddle fear, are just bottom-feeders taking money from certain parties. Trump was a warmonger and anti-crypto; the more restrictions there are, the better it is for the market.

Meanwhile, on X, @Sawyerr_Alfred warned normal buyers to stay away, stating that many people are being trapped in fake price pumps and predicting an even harder dump soon.

Why Washington politics controls crypto prices
Before this election, the cryptocurrency industry spent over $206 million trying to buy friendly lawmakers. They wanted a Republican-controlled Congress to pass bills like the CLARITY Act, which would have made it easier for crypto companies to operate legally.
When the Democrats won the House and the Senate, that plan died. The market is reacting to the threat of strict new rules. Investors believe a Democratic Congress will give the SEC more power to sue trading platforms, block new digital tokens, and heavily tax crypto profits.
When large investment funds see a government preparing that may not support the industry or will impose strict rules, they do not wait to fight in court. They immediately pull millions out of the market to protect their cash, and that massive exit forces Bitcoin’s price down quickly.
Past midterm market falls
While the current panic feels tied specifically to the 2026 results, crashes during a US midterm election have been consistent with the Bitcoin cycle.
Historically, Bitcoin has suffered massive price drops right before or during every single midterm election since the coin was created. In 2014, the market collapsed by 48 per cent around the vote. In 2018, it fell 37 per cent, and in 2022, it dropped 16 per cent. Financial analyst Ali Martinez notes that Bitcoin’s yearly low has historically occurred between 13 and 71 days after US midterm elections.
However, the historical data also holds a warning for people who sell in a panic today. While the midterm elections always cause a short-term crash, the recovery is just as predictable. In the 12 months following every past midterm election, Bitcoin has gained an average of 53.7 per cent. The political fear always burns out. Once the new government takes office and the market realizes the technology is still working, investors pour their money back in, driving the price to new yearly highs.
How giant funds trap everyday buyers
This predictable cycle of political fear exposes the cruellest game in the cryptocurrency market: the panic trap. When election news breaks and the price starts falling, everyday people sitting at home read the terrifying headlines. They watch their wallet balance shrink and sell their digital coins at a loss just to save whatever cash they have left.
Giant Wall Street funds and billionaire traders do the exact opposite. They understand the political panic is temporary. They actively want the price to crash so they can buy Bitcoin at a discount.
The everyday trader takes a heavy financial loss based on emotion. A few months later, when the political dust settles and the price naturally climbs back up to $80,000 or $90,000, that same everyday trader will feel safe again. They will buy their Bitcoin back, but now they pay a much higher price to the same giant fund that bought it from them at the bottom. The election results simply serve as a psychological tool to scare regular people out of their assets, transferring cheap digital money straight into the hands of patient billionaires.
Meanwhile, during the Federal Reserve’s rate increases in 2022, both technology shares and Bitcoin fell sharply as investors reduced risk exposure. While crypto and technology stocks do not always move together, they often react in similar ways when interest rate expectations change. This week’s withdrawals suggest many investors are again becoming more careful with where they place their money.
