Alpaca has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Korea’s Eugene Investment & Securities to expand access to Korean equities for global investors through its brokerage infrastructure platform.
Under the agreement, Eugene Investment & Securities will act as Alpaca’s local execution and market access partner. The firm will provide trade execution, custody, clearing and settlement, blockchain services and omnibus account operations for Korean equities.
Alpaca said the partnership is intended to give retail investors and broker partners easier access to one of the world’s largest stock markets. The company plans to offer trading in Korean-listed companies across industries, including electronics, manufacturing, and technology, while reducing operational barriers to cross-border investing.

Jong-Won Jung, head of Eugene Investment & Securities’ Digital Finance Division, said working with Alpaca would improve access to South Korea’s capital markets for international investors.
Foreign investors remain interested in South Korea’s stock market
South Korea is home to some of the world’s largest technology and manufacturing companies. Still, direct access to its equity market has traditionally been more complicated for overseas investors than access to U.S. or European markets.
International participation has increased in recent years as regulators introduced measures to simplify market access, including improvements to foreign investor registration rules and settlement procedures. Global demand has also been supported by continued interest in Korean semiconductor, battery, automotive, and consumer technology companies.

Traditional brokers are preparing for tokenized markets
Brokerage infrastructure is changing as financial firms prepare for a future where traditional securities and blockchain-based assets can exist on the same platforms. While this partnership focuses on conventional Korean equities, many global brokers are investing in technology that can eventually support tokenized stocks, digital assets, and blockchain-based settlement alongside traditional financial products.
That move has become more visible as financial institutions experiment with tokenized securities and blockchain infrastructure. Companies including BlackRock, Robinhood, and Kraken have all increased efforts around tokenized assets in recent months, showing interest in connecting conventional capital markets with blockchain technology.
