Barry Moore Wins Alabama GOP Senate Runoff as Crypto-Backed PACs Score Major Victory

Republican Congressman Barry Moore has secured victory in Alabama’s Senate runoff, marking another big win for crypto-backed political action committees seeking to expand pro-digital asset influence in Washington.

Unofficial results from the Alabama Secretary of State showed Moore defeating former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson with 55.8% of the vote, compared with Hudson’s 44.2%. The victory positions Moore as the Republican nominee in November’s general election race to replace Senator Tommy Tuberville, who is running for governor.

Given that Alabama is considered a strong Republican state, Moore enters the general election as the clear favourite against Democratic candidate Everett Wess.

Crypto PAC spending delivers key Senate win

Moore’s victory comes after substantial support from Defend American Jobs, a Republican super PAC linked to crypto-focused political network Fairshake.

The PAC spent more than $12 million across the primary and runoff races, including $7.4 million ahead of Alabama’s May primary and an additional $4.7 million before the runoff election.

Fairshake spokesman Geoff Vetter described the Alabama contest as the network’s largest investment of the election cycle, adding that the organization still holds nearly $150 million in cash reserves for future races.

The result adds to a growing list of victories for crypto-backed political groups during the 2026 election season as the industry seeks to strengthen its presence in Congress ahead of key regulatory votes.

Is crypto policy becoming a campaign issue?

Moore entered the race with a strong record of support for digital asset legislation during his time in the House of Representatives.

Crypto advocacy group Stand With Crypto rated Moore as strongly supportive of cryptocurrency policies, while Hudson received a neutral rating.

Although Hudson publicly backed ongoing efforts to establish a regulatory framework for digital assets, he criticized the influence of what he called “Big Crypto” in the race. Despite that stance, outside spending overwhelmingly favoured Moore.

Additional support came from Fellowship PAC, which disclosed $350,000 in expenditures backing Moore’s campaign. The Blockchain Leadership Fund also endorsed Moore earlier this year.

Congress faces pressure on crypto legislation

Moore’s win arrives as lawmakers continue debating major cryptocurrency legislation, including the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act.

The bill cleared the House in 2025 but has stalled in the Senate amid disagreements over decentralized finance oversight, stablecoin regulations, and ethics provisions.

Industry-backed political groups view Senate races as critical to securing enough support for market structure legislation and broader digital asset reforms.

With Republicans holding narrow majorities in Congress, Moore’s victory strengthens the crypto industry’s efforts to build a larger pro-crypto coalition ahead of future votes on digital asset regulation.
