OKX Launches Exchange OS to Power Custom Crypto and Prediction Markets

OKX has introduced a new trading infrastructure platform called Exchange OS, giving users the ability to create their own spot, perpetual and prediction markets on-chain.

The platform is built on OKX’s Ethereum layer-2 network, X Layer, and is designed to support shared liquidity across different types of markets. According to OKX founder and CEO Star Xu, the system uses the same core infrastructure that powers the company’s centralized exchange.

The launch marks another step in the exchange’s expansion beyond traditional crypto trading as competition among platforms shifts toward on-chain finance and tokenized assets.

FIFA world cup market to debut first

Exchange OS is currently in the first stage of a three-phase rollout. During this phase, selected partners will begin building products on the infrastructure before public access opens in the third quarter of 2026.

The first application expected to go live on the platform will be a prediction-style market tied to the FIFA World Cup. Users will be able to trade outcomes linked to sports events, similar to growing blockchain-based prediction markets.

OKX said additional protocol upgrades and infrastructure improvements are planned for the fourth quarter of 2026 and beyond.

The company claims Exchange OS can process up to 300,000 transactions per second with millisecond-level latency, aiming to deliver faster on-chain trading performance.

Solving shared liquidity across multiple markets

Xu said the platform was created to solve what he described as fragmented crypto market infrastructure, where trading, settlement and liquidity are spread across separate platforms.

Exchange OS combines key trading functions such as matching, margining, liquidation, settlement and risk management into a single system running on X Layer.

According to OKX, this setup allows different market types to access the same liquidity pool instead of operating as isolated platforms.

The company believes the model could improve capital efficiency for traders and developers building new financial applications. Xu said the infrastructure is flexible enough for both traditional financial firms requiring full KYC compliance and decentralized crypto projects seeking open access markets.

OKX expands focus to AI Agents and TradFi

OKX has recently expanded its focus beyond spot and derivatives trading into tokenization and AI-related blockchain infrastructure. OKX rolled out a new execution framework designed to improve how AI agents carry out trades on-chain, addressing common issues tied to poor execution rather than flawed strategy.

The platform deepened the link between traditional finance and digital assets by adding BlackRock’s BUIDL tokenized U.S. Treasury fund to its institutional collateral framework in partnership with Standard Chartered.
