On December 24, KickStreaming, an online streaming platform, reportedly suffered a cybersecurity breach as its official X account was hacked to promote fraudulent Solana-based scam tokens.

The scammers touted the so-called “Kick Token” as a revolutionary tool for blockchain developers and content creators, enticing users to interact with malicious wallet links.
However, KickStreaming co-founder Bijan Tehrani has responded on X, clarifying that the platform has no plans to launch any tokens and denouncing the “Kick Token” as an outright fabrication. Tehrani urged followers to report the scam posts while the company worked to regain account access.
This incident highlights an alarming rise in cyberattacks on high-profile X accounts to promote cryptocurrency scams. Recently, the X account of Vivek Ramaswamy, co-lead of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), was also hacked. The compromised account falsely announced a partnership between DOGE and the stablecoin project Usual, claiming it aimed to reduce the federal deficit through cryptocurrency initiatives. The fraudulent post was quickly debunked and deleted.
Similarly, hip-hop icon Drake was a recent target when hackers exploited his massive social media following to push a Solana-based meme coin called $ANITA. Scam posts falsely claimed the token was tied to Drake’s “Anita Max Wynn Tour” and launched in collaboration with Stake, a crypto betting platform Drake partnered with in 2022. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT flagged the posts as fake, debunking any ties to Drake or Stake.
This pattern of exploiting celebrity accounts on X to promote crypto scams has intensified in 2024. Other notable victims include Wiz Khalifa, Hulk Hogan, 50 Cent, Doja Cat, and Caitlyn Jenner, underscoring the need for heightened cybersecurity vigilance across social media platforms. Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao recently warned his X followers to be wary of scammers impersonating him on the platform. He also called on X to improve its efforts to tackle these fraudulent accounts.
