Japanese electronics manufacturer Casio, in collaboration with Polygon Labs, is venturing into the world of NFTs with its latest announcement of the virtual G-SHOCK project.
As part of the project, the company would establish an interactive user community to bridge the gap between users and their iconic G-SHOCK line of shock-resistant watches. Starting from September 23, 2023, the company plans to distribute 15,000 limited-edition G-SHOCK creator pass NFTs that grant holders access to this virtual G-SHOCK community on Discord.
According to Casio, it is embracing new digital technologies like NFTs and the metaverse to foster a dynamic virtual community for its products, expand its reach, and deepen its global appeal.
Customers who have previously registered for a CASIO ID on the company’s membership site will enjoy exclusive access to this NFT distribution from September 23 to September 26 during the pre-distribution phase. Subsequently, a public distribution phase will run from September 26 to September 29.
The NFTs are hosted and will distributed via the Polygon blockchain. Takahashi Oh, Senior General Manager of Timepieces at Casio, justified the choice of Polygon, stating,
“at its core, our virtual G-SHOCK was built to be accessible, innovative, and inclusive, meaning that user experience must be frictionless and simple. This is why Polygon was the most natural and logical choice for us.”
Casio’s NFT collection will be accessible to residents in several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Japan, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
Casio joins an exciting trend of companies launching NFTs on Polygon to build communities around their products. Reddit, one of the pioneers of the trend, recently launched its fourth generation of collectible avatars, “Retro Reimagined,” on the Polygon blockchain to facilitate decentralized trading and third-party sales.
Salesforce also announced in March 2023 that it has partnered with Polygon Labs to assist its clients in creating loyalty programs with NFTs on the Polygon blockchain. According to Salesforce, NFTs can help companies tap into new audiences, unlock co-creation and co-ownership possibilities, and ensure customer data privacy.
