Reggie Fils-Aimé, the former president of Nintendo, has stated that gaming companies are becoming more interested in the metaverse and its elements. The benefits of incorporating metaverse elements into traditional gaming franchises are becoming apparent.
He believes that notable traditional gaming platforms should be at the forefront of implementing the gaming features that the metaverse offers because they are experienced and possess the knowledge to create interactive gaming experiences.
Fils-Aimé believes that though the race to develop metaverse games is competitive; gaming companies have a competitive advantage. He stated that gaming companies such as Nintendo and Sony would offer players more immersive games than other companies.
Fils-Aimé made this known to Yahoo Finance,
“I do believe it’s going to be led by gaming companies and I do believe that — if delivered in a way that’s fun, that’s compelling — it’s an experience that people will want to have.”
The former Nintendo exec is of the opinion that the metaverse and gaming are inextricably intertwined, as the features in the former exist to a large extent in the latter. Users typically find virtual reality, augmented reality, and other elements of digital worlds in various traditional games. This implies that switching between both is easy.
“I describe (the metaverse) as a space that’s immersive and interactive, a space that has the ability to be modified but can still be persistent. ” Fils-Aimé continued, “Imagine walking on sand, and seeing other footprints — that’s an example of where you’re able to modify an environment, but it is persistent. You’ve seen what other people have done.”
