The Giving Block, a crypto donation platform, has released the 2023 edition of its annual report. The report was titled “Crypto Philanthropy Data, Trends and Predictions,” and it revealed that the total crypto donations on the platform exceeded $125 million in 2022.

The report also included information about the most popular cryptocurrencies used for donations as well as the largest crypto donation received during the year.
According to the report, USD Coin (USDC) was the top cryptocurrency used for donations, accounting for 44% of the total volume, while Ether (ETH) came in second with 24%, and Bitcoin (BTC) was used for 17% of the donations.
In the report, The Giving Block disclosed a list of six charities that received crypto donations in 2022. The list included Orangutan Outreach, a project that protects orphaned and displaced orangutans, and Trees for the Future, a nonprofit organization that practises regenerative agriculture and planted 2.3 million trees thanks to the crypto donations it received.
The Giving Block also predicted BTC could reach $100,000 by September 2026 and $250,000 by October 2029. The platform based its predictions about Bitcoin’s price trajectory on its data on crypto donations and its market analysis.
According to The Giving Block, crypto philanthropy is expected to generate $10 billion in donations for nonprofits on its platform throughout this decade. The report predicts that the platform could surpass $1 billion in donations by August 2027, achieve $5 billion by June 2031, and exceed $10 billion by November 2032.
The co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, currently holds the record for the largest crypto donation of the year. He donated $9.4 million through his philanthropic fund, Balvi. The Giving Block stated that the donation was intended to finance a research initiative that supports the School of Public Health’s exploration of germicidal ultraviolet light.
