Google’s search engine now incorporates Ethereum Name Service (ENS) data, sourced from Etherscan, directly into its search results. Brantly Millegan, a former ENS core development member, pointed this out in an X post shared on March 22, 2024.
Millegan’s post showcased a screenshot of a Google search displaying his ENS (Bradley.eth), which included address information such as ETH balance and the timestamp of the last transaction.

The Ethereum Name Service enables the use of sophisticated wallet addresses on the Internet in a similar way to the use of domains. For instance, rather than using complicated numbers, users get an ENS address, such as “yourname.eth”, which they can share with others. Thus, this Google integration marks a significant development in its adoption
In his post, Millegan advised users encountering issues with the feature to try using a private browsing tab, as it currently seems to work only in that mode for those not signed in. Despite the potential partial rollout of this new feature, Millegan expressed admiration for its functionality and potential impact. He pointed out that Google’s incorporation of ENS data precedes cryptocurrencies and decentralized applications (dApps) platforms, which were expected to do so first.
This move by Google follows its earlier initiatives to incorporate crypto-related data into its services. Back in 2022, Han Hua, principal of Google Ventures, announced that the tech giant introduced cryptocurrency functionality that enabled tracking of ETH balances directly from its search engine, reducing reliance on external platforms like Etherscan.
And more recently, in May 2023, Google introduced native support for displaying Ethereum wallet balances directly within search results. Initially, individuals could search for certain public addresses and see the wallet balance directly in the search results. However, this feature has now expanded to ENS domains.
