J.P. Morgan Asset Management has officially included Bitcoin in its decade-long financial forecast for the very first time.
In its newly released 2027 Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions, the banking giant predicts Bitcoin will deliver a 10 per cent compound annual return over the next 10 to 15 years. This projection puts Bitcoin ahead of traditional investments, beating U.S. large-cap stocks (expected to grow at 7.5 per cent), real estate investment trusts at 8.2 per cent, and gold at 5.5 per cent.

The report also noted a much higher arithmetic average return of 20.9 per cent, though the bank immediately warned that 55 per cent annualized price swings will eat into those final profits.

Bitwise executive Matt Hougan pointed out that these figures officially crown the digital currency as the highest-returning asset for the upcoming decade.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight at you, then they add you to their Long-Term Capital Markets Assumptions paper and predict you’ll be the best-performing asset of the next decade.

Online observer, @Sanoyjustin, noticed the underlying math, pointing out that the heavy 55 per cent volatility is exactly what drags the 20.9 per cent average down to a final 10 per cent yearly compound.
@WuBlockchain big gap between the 20.9% average and the 10% yearly compounded number. that’s the 55% volatility eating into it. did they give gold’s volatility too?

Meanwhile, @YeoCrypto pointed out that a 10% annual return would grow a $1,000 investment to about $2,594 over ten years. The user joked that the bigger milestone was JPMorgan taking Bitcoin seriously enough to include it in long-term forecasts.
@WuBlockchain A 10% annual return compounds to roughly 2.6x over ten years. Modest by $BTC standards, but it’s the first time JPMorgan’s long term forecasts have had to admit it exists at all.

User @Jaraucrypt joked about JPMorgan’s strict rules on AI agents accessing customer accounts, pointing out the contrast between the bank’s caution toward AI tools and its confidence in the assets they manage.
@WuBlockchain same jpmorgan that won’t let an ai agent near your account. trusts the asset, not the robot lol 😆

Previous Bitcoin predictions had failed
In 2021, Goldman Sachs issued a highly publicized forecast stating that Bitcoin would capture 50 per cent of the global “store of value” market and hit $100,000 within a five-year window. The financial institution based this prediction on the assumption that digital money would steadily steal investors away from physical gold at a predictable, measurable rate.
That timeline failed. Instead of climbing smoothly, the global economy shifted, national interest rates rose sharply, and the cryptocurrency market collapsed in 2022.
This historical failure proves that while major banks are excellent at predicting the slow, steady growth of real estate or corporate stocks, their long-term predictions for decentralized networks often break apart when confronted with real-world economic panic.
Will this forecast actually work? A look at JPMorgan’s track record
In early 2021, JPMorgan’s analyst Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou issued a long-term forecast predicting that Bitcoin would eventually reach $146,000. They built that previous roadmap on the assumption that the digital currency would stop experiencing wild price crashes and become as mathematically stable as physical gold.
That prediction failed almost immediately. The bank’s financial model broke because the analysts expected a highly unpredictable software network to act exactly like a traditional metal bar. However, for this new outlook, the bank changed its formula. Instead of assuming price swings will disappear, JPMorgan factored in extreme 55 per cent market crashes. However, in the new report, the bank said that it still views the coin strictly as a highly volatile asset.
Meanwhile, JPMorgan has structured a new batch of Bitcoin-linked notes that could deliver amplified returns if BTC and IBIT rally into 2028, while exposing investors to capped upside, conditional protection, and the bank’s own credit profile.
