Ondo Finance, one of the largest tokenized securities platforms globally, has partnered with Japan’s SBI Group to bring Japanese equities onchain and expand access to tokenized financial products across the country.
The partnership will allow Ondo to issue tokenized Japanese assets through Ondo Global Markets, while SBI will distribute Ondo’s tokenized products across its financial ecosystem. The two companies will also use SBI’s yen-backed stablecoin, JPYSC, for settlement and collateral on tokenized assets.
The collaboration connects Japan’s established capital markets with blockchain-based financial infrastructure, giving investors new ways to access Japanese assets through digital platforms.

Japan’s financial network enters tokenized markets
SBI Group, one of Japan’s largest financial groups, has built businesses across securities, banking, payments, and digital assets. Its partnership with Ondo adds tokenized securities to its growing digital asset strategy.
Through the agreement, SBI customers will gain access to Ondo’s tokenized products, while the companies will promote each other’s services through their respective networks and partners. Ondo said the partnership will focus on creating tokenized instruments for Japanese assets, although specific stocks and launch timelines were not disclosed.
Yen-based settlement could matter for tokenized assets
Most tokenized securities markets today rely on dollar-based settlement, creating a challenge for investors operating in other currencies. SBI’s JPYSC stablecoin introduces a yen-based settlement option that could make tokenized assets easier to use within Japan’s financial system.
Japan has been building rules around digital assets and stablecoins, with regulators allowing licensed entities to issue yen-backed stablecoins under the country’s updated payment framework. A regulated yen settlement layer could help connect traditional Japanese investors with blockchain-based markets without requiring constant currency conversion.
Similar efforts are taking place globally as banks and asset managers test blockchain-based systems for moving and settling financial products. Ondo and SBI aim to create a link between Japan’s capital markets and global investors seeking access to tokenized assets. If successful, the model could become a reference point for how national markets connect with blockchain-based financial systems.
Additionally, Ondo Finance rolled out on-chain access to shares of BitGo just hours after the crypto custodian made its public market debut, marking a same-day bridge between Wall Street and blockchain markets.
