Mirae Asset Securities plans to use its Hong Kong business as the starting point for a tokenized investment platform, with a goal of offering blockchain-based versions of traditional financial assets within the next three years.
The company’s Hong Kong subsidiary recently launched the Mirae Asset Portfolio Service (MAPS), a trading platform that combines traditional investments with digital assets. Speaking at the Hong Kong Financial Seminar in Seoul, Mirae Asset Securities Hong Kong Director Jeong Jae-won said the platform marks a new stage for the business as it expands beyond institutional trading into brokerage and wealth management.

Jeong said the long-term plan is to upload tokenized investment products to the platform, allowing customers to trade both conventional financial assets and blockchain-based assets from one place. The company will first focus on customers in Hong Kong before considering expansion into other markets.
Hong Kong chosen for tokenized asset testing
Mirae Asset said Hong Kong offers one of the most developed regulatory environments for digital assets, making it the preferred location for testing its blockchain strategy.
The company is preparing digital asset licenses and infrastructure while treating Hong Kong as a group-wide testing ground for tokenized finance. MAPS is expected to operate under a regulated system that includes consumer protection before additional products are introduced.
Jeong added that Mirae Asset does not view digital assets simply as cryptocurrencies. Instead, the company sees blockchain as technology that can support future financial markets by allowing traditional assets to be issued and traded in tokenized form.
Can tokenized investment platforms attract enough users?
Mirae Asset’s long-term plan goes beyond launching a blockchain platform. The real test will be attracting enough investors and asset issuers to keep tokenized products actively traded.
Several firms have already entered this space, including Switzerland’s SIX Digital Exchange and Singapore-based ADDX. Both built regulated platforms for tokenized securities, but growing trading activity has taken longer than many expected.
For MAPS, success will depend on whether it can pair Mirae Asset’s investment pipeline with steady investor demand, giving users reasons to buy, sell, and hold tokenized assets instead of treating them as another blockchain experiment.
Mirae Asset Financial Group pursued the acquisition of Korbit, with local reports indicating that negotiations had reached an advanced stage. The proposed deal was seen as a significant step for institutional crypto adoption in Asia. Founded in 2013, Korbit is one of South Korea’s oldest cryptocurrency exchanges and has maintained a notable share of the market despite the country’s strict regulatory environment.
