David Schwartz, Ripple’s CTO Emeritus and one of the original developers of the XRP Ledger (XRPL), has highlighted the network’s stability ahead of the rollout of the highly anticipated v3.2.0 upgrade, as node operators begin migrating to the newly renamed xrpld server.
Schwartz temporarily took his XRPL hub offline on June 17 to complete the software upgrade. Before the maintenance, he shared performance data from the past month showing the network remained stable with minimal disruptions, reinforcing confidence in XRPL’s infrastructure as adoption grows across payments, tokenisation, and decentralised finance (DeFi).

Schwartz reports strong network performance
According to Schwartz, the data showed only one significant incident during the monitoring period, involving a brief burst of peer disconnections. He said the issue was likely linked to a network outage near the hub rather than a problem with the XRP Ledger itself.
The hub is back up and stable. Total downtime was about 18 minutes. The extra downtime was due to the XRPL software taking about five minutes longer than expected to shut down cleanly.

Following the upgrade process, Schwartz confirmed that the hub was back online and operating normally. While the maintenance was expected to last about 10 minutes, the downtime extended to nearly 18 minutes.
He explained that the additional delay occurred because the software required more time than expected to shut down cleanly before the upgrade could be completed.
Schwartz also responded to questions from community members about his continued involvement in operating XRPL infrastructure, despite no longer serving as Ripple’s CTO. He noted that anyone can run an XRPL node, validator, hub, or history server.
XRPL v3.2.0 introduces important infrastructure changes
The v3.2.0 release includes the new fixCleanup3_2_0 amendment, which delivers bug fixes and performance improvements across several network features.
The update addresses areas including Single Asset Vaults, the Lending Protocol (XLS-66), decentralized exchange operations, Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs), and permissioned domains.
One of the most notable changes is the renaming of the core server software from rippled to xrpld. The update also introduces new binary names, configuration files, service names, and default system paths.
Validators begin migration to XRPL
The XRPL Foundation has urged validators and node operators to follow the official migration process carefully and back up important files before updating.
Network data shows that approximately 14% of XRPL nodes have already upgraded to v3.2.0. The release is expected to reduce node memory usage by as much as 40%, lowering operating costs while supporting greater scalability for tokenization, payments, and emerging blockchain applications.
The upgrade comes as Ripple continues expanding the XRPL ecosystem, including recent efforts to support AI-driven payments through XRP and RLUSD. Additionally, Ripple is strengthening its push into institutional crypto payments, arguing that banks want easier access to blockchain technology without having to build complex infrastructure themselves.
