Sui Network has resumed operations after a major outage halted its mainnet for nearly six hours, marking the blockchain’s second downtime incident this year.
The layer-1 blockchain confirmed that the disruption was caused by a bug introduced in version 1.72 of its software upgrade. In an update posted on X, the Sui team said the issue came from a flaw in the network’s gas charging logic, which temporarily stopped transaction processing across the chain.
由于 1.72 版本中引入的 Gas 计费逻辑存在漏洞,Sui 主网曾于昨夜今晨短暂暂停运行。
目前,Sui 主网已恢复正常运行,网络活动也已重新开始。

The network later restored activity after validators rolled out a fix, though some validators were still reporting degraded performance at the time of recovery.
Bug in latest update caused network to halt
The outage began after Sui validators detected a crash linked to the newly introduced upgrade. During the incident, the team warned users that transaction processing could remain paused until the issue was resolved.
According to the network’s status page, the disruption lasted for 5 hours and 55 minutes before normal activity resumed.
Sui also confirmed that a full post-mortem report explaining the cause of the outage and the steps taken to restore the network will be released in the coming days.
The incident quickly drew attention across the crypto market, with users raising concerns about the reliability of the fast-growing blockchain network.
Second major outage in 2026
This is the second time Sui has suffered a lengthy outage in 2026. In January, the blockchain went offline for more than six hours following another technical issue.
The network also experienced downtime in November 2024 after validators became stuck in a crash loop, preventing transactions from being processed for about two and a half hours.
Despite the repeated outages, Sui remains one of the largest blockchain networks in decentralized finance. Data from DefiLlama shows the network currently holds around $542 million in total value locked across 137 protocols.
Was SUI token affected during disruption?
The outage also affected market sentiment around the SUI token. The token dropped about 6.6% during the disruption, falling to nearly $0.90 before recovering slightly to around $0.93.
The decline came just weeks after SUI rallied strongly following announcements of new features, including zero-fee stablecoin transfers and private transactions.
Sui launched its mainnet in May 2023 and has positioned itself as a high-speed blockchain designed for large-scale financial applications.
Major crypto disruptions this year have included non-technical issues like cyberattacks, most notably in April when decentralized exchange Drift Protocol was hacked, forcing a temporary suspension of deposits and withdrawals, and liquid restaking protocol Kelp was also targeted, prompting it to pause smart contracts for its restaking token (rsETH) during an investigation.
