AI16Z has officially launched the beta version of ElizaOS v2, marking a significant step in the AI agent’s evolution.
However, AI16Z’s token continues to linger in a prolonged downtrend despite the release, showing no signs of a bullish turnaround.
Founder Shaw confirmed the beta launch in an X post, cautioning users that “it’s still a beta” and that “job’s not done.” His statement reflects the ongoing development efforts, which have expanded from solo projects to collaborative initiatives involving internal and external teams. Earlier in January, Shaw outlined plans for community testing before integrating the new version into the main repository. However, that transition has yet to be announced and is expected to take place only after beta testing concludes.
Prior to the beta launch, Sam Gao, an advisor at Andreessen Horowitz, announced the release of the technical whitepaper for Eliza, an open-source operating system for AI agents, on January 14. The whitepaper listed Shaw as the primary author, with contributions from other organizations. Eliza was introduced as a customizable framework supporting major blockchain ecosystems such as Solana, Ethereum, and Ton, along with AI models like OpenAI, Llama, and Qwen.
It also integrated with platforms like Twitter, Discord, and Telegram, offering plugins for image and video generation, NFT creation, and blockchain analytics. With over 30 AI agents powered by Eliza, its mission was to drive equitable technological progress for humanity.
ElizaOS v2 improves AI agents’ capacity to set and pursue long-term goals with minimal human input by integrating Hierarchical Task Networks (HTNs). This allows the AI to break down complex tasks and act autonomously. However, despite the technological advancements, the AI16Z token is still 92% below its all-time high of $2.48, and the market response to the beta release has been lacklustre. Investors are waiting for the final release of ElizaOS v2 to see if it can positively impact the token’s value.
