Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, is reportedly facing increasing pressure from influential Democratic donors to participate in a major crypto event in the United States this fall.
According to a report from Decrypt, these donors are pushing for Harris to speak at Permissionless III, a prominent crypto conference organised by media firm Blockworks. The event is scheduled to take place from October 9-11 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and will feature notable figures such as a16z crypto founder Chris Dixon, Galaxy Digital CEO Michael Novogratz, and Republican Congressman Tom Emmer.
Blockworks founder Jason Yanowitz confirmed to Decrypt that the company has received strong encouragement from top Democratic contributors to secure Harris as a speaker. However, Yanowitz did not disclose the names of those advocating for her appearance.
The push for Harris’s attendance follows recent comments by former President Donald Trump at the Bitcoin 2024 event in Nashville, Texas, where he expressed support for the cryptocurrency industry. This marks a significant moment as prominent Democratic and Republican figures increasingly engage with the crypto sector.
Notably, a16z founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz recently endorsed Trump and announced plans to support PACs aligned with his campaign. Meanwhile, Novogratz, a significant Democratic donor, has expressed optimism about Harris’s potential candidacy, suggesting she could pose a formidable challenge to Trump.
While Harris has not made any public statements regarding cryptocurrency since being backed by President Biden, Bitcoin Magazine CEO David Bailey mentioned in a July 24 post on X that she privately referred to Bitcoin as “money for criminals,” citing an unnamed major Democratic donor.
Meanwhile, this development comes just days after reports surfaced that members of Harris’s campaign team had initiated contact with several top U.S. cryptocurrency companies, including Coinbase, Circle, and Ripple Labs, in a bid to “reset relations” with the industry.
