Aptos Partners with Jambo to Launch $99 SmartPhone and Increase Access to Crypto in Emerging Markets

Aptos Partners with Jambo to Launch $99 SmartPhone and Increase Access to Crypto in Emerging Markets

Aptos has revealed a new partnership with African tech startup Jambo to introduce the JamboPhone, a budget-friendly smartphone priced at just $99.

The smartphone is promoted as an entry point to the Aptos ecosystem. It provides a simple way for users to access different offerings from the blockchain network. With pre-installed apps such as Petra and the Jambo App, users can seamlessly connect to the Aptos blockchain and leverage its applications.

The phone operates on Android 13, features a 6.5″ IPS LCD display, and is currently available in over 40 countries globallyJambo claims that the JamboPhone stands out as the top gaming smartphone in its price category

According to their press release, Aptos and Jambo’s collaboration also aims to improve accessibility to cryptocurrencies and web3 technologies, mainly targeting users in emerging markets, especially in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.

Notably, Aptos has partnered before to improve accessibility to web3 solutions in global markets and increase exposure to its offerings.

In November 2023,  the blockchain company joined forces with SK Telecom, a South Korean telecommunications giant, for its ongoing project with Atomrigs Lab to create a web3 wallet service. Aptos contributed its MoveVM blockchain technology to enhance the wallet’s functionality. In return, the partnership will introduce users to the Aptos Network’s dApp ecosystem.

The trend of crypto projects venturing into smartphone launches to stimulate activity within their ecosystems is gaining traction. Solana, for instance, has started accepting pre-orders for the second generation of its Saga smartphone. The device is expected to be more cost-effective than its predecessor, which was launched in June 2022 at a $1000 price tag.

Both Solana and Aptos share a common objective: to enhance user engagement and create an enriched experience for their respective communities.

Initially, there was little interest in Saga. But, after reducing its price to $599, the 20,000 available devices sold out quickly in the United States and Europe. The new Saga device is set to ship in the first half of 2025.
