CoinGecko Denies Fake Claims of “Racist” Token Listing

CoinGecko, the cryptocurrency data aggregator, has refuted claims that it had listed a token with a racist and offensive name.

The platform responded in an X post on November 19, calling the screenshots of the alleged listing circulating on social media “false and misleading.”

The screenshot in question was posted by an X user who asked why the platform displayed a token with an offensive name under its “top zoo-themed category.” The platform clarified that the token in question has “never been listed” on its site.

As of press time, the token is not listed in that category or anywhere on Coingecko’s platform. It is listed on other crypto data aggregator platforms, but these listings are tagged as unverified.

In its statement, CoinGecko urged users to report fake content, stressing the importance of combating misinformation within the crypto community. The firm emphasized that it takes these allegations seriously and encourages its community to help ensure accurate information sharing.

This is not the first time CoinGecko has dealt with misinformation regarding its brand. In August, the platform warned users about a fake airdrop scam involving a GECKO token. The platform reiterated that it has no plans to launch tokens or conduct airdrop. “This is NOT true. CoinGecko does not have any tokens or airdrop plans at the moment. Always stay vigilant and double-check your sources before clicking any links,” the team stated.
