Kraken has launched a new regulated cryptocurrency derivatives feature, opening up futures trading to its U.S. customers for the first time.
In a blog post dubbed Kraken Derivatives US, the new service integrates with the Kraken Pro platform to provide access to cryptocurrency futures listed on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). With this rollout, American users can now trade futures alongside spot markets within a single, unified platform.
“With this launch, Kraken clients in the U.S. can now trade futures alongside one of the world’s most liquid cryptocurrency spot markets,”
said Shannon Kurtas, head of exchange at Kraken.
“It’s a meaningful step in giving traders broad market access and increased capital efficiency within a regulated and high-performance environment.”
Kraken Derivatives US features instant funding for seamless collateral transfers and a streamlined interface designed for advanced trading strategies and efficient risk management. Although its initial offering focuses on cryptocurrency futures, the company has announced plans to expand its support to include commodities, foreign exchange, equity futures, and fixed income products in the future.
The move follows Kraken’s recent push to broaden its financial product suite. In April, the exchange debuted commission-free equities trading for U.S. users, granting access to over 11,000 stocks and ETFs. It also launched crypto futures trading for European customers in May, unveiled a tokenized equities platform, and acquired retail futures platform NinjaTrader. The acquisition would enable Kraken to capitalize on NinjaTrader’s Futures Commission Merchant license, significantly expanding its portfolio of cryptocurrency futures and derivatives products available to users across the United States.
Competition in the derivatives market is heating up as other major players expand their offerings. Coinbase recently acquired Deribit, while Robinhood announced plans to acquire Bitstamp to bolster its global presence.
Kraken says its new derivatives feature will enrich a unified trading experience where both digital and traditional assets are accessible without sacrificing liquidity, features, or performance.
