eToro, a prominent digital trading platform, has announced a major step toward merging traditional finance with blockchain technology by launching tokenized U.S. equities on the Ethereum blockchain.
This initiative will convert 100 of the most popular U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs into ERC-20 tokens, which will be fully backed by the underlying shares held by eToro. This means investors who acquire these tokens essentially own real shares and can redeem their tokens for traditional stock holdings at any time.

The tokenized stocks will enable round-the-clock trading, unlike the conventional stock markets with fixed trading hours. By offering 24/7 access, eToro aims to give investors greater flexibility to trade on their schedules and respond swiftly to market events. Beyond simple trading, the tokenized assets can seamlessly integrate with decentralized finance (DeFi) applications such as lending, staking, and other emerging financial tools on the Ethereum network. This step advances eToro’s broader vision of tokenizing all assets on its platform to facilitate open, borderless financial markets.
Yoni Assia, eToro’s CEO, emphasized the importance of evolving regulatory clarity, highlighting regulations like the European Union’s MiCA framework and the U.S. GENIUS Act as enabling conditions for issuing legally compliant, tokenized real-world assets. He stated that tokenization can democratize finance by providing transparency, control, and easier access to global markets.
eToro is not alone in this space. Competitors such as Robinhood, Kraken, Gemini, and Bybit have also introduced tokenized equities, signalling a growing trend in the adoption of blockchain-based trading solutions. eToro’s move builds upon its prior experience with tokenized commodities like gold and silver, reflecting a strategic expansion into tokenized U.S. stocks aimed at both retail and institutional investors.
The rollout is expected to begin in August 2025, initially focusing on European markets before expanding globally. As interest grows, this integration of traditional equities with blockchain technology may significantly increase liquidity and broaden participation in both the crypto and stock markets. The Ethereum blockchain, benefiting from increased transaction volumes, stands to gain prominence as a hub for tokenized real-world assets.
