Sonic Labs has announced a 190.5 million S token airdrop to incentivise user and developer activity across its expanding Web3 ecosystem, with eligibility extended to select global participants.
The initiative, revealed in a June 3 update, introduces a gamified rewards structure designed to deepen community engagement and foster sustained on-chain activity.
The airdrop is categorised into three tiers of participation: Sonic Points for everyday users interacting with tokens and applications; Sonic Gems allocated to DeFi protocols that drive innovation and user activity; and Game Gems awarded to developers enhancing player engagement and retention. In addition, historical contributors to Opera, Sonic Arcade participants, and Shard NFT minters will also receive allocation bonuses.

To ensure long-term engagement, Sonic will implement a structured token distribution model. The first phase becomes claimable six months after the protocol’s official launch—expected around June 2025. At that time, 25% of each user’s allocation will be immediately available. The remaining 75% will be vested over 270 days as NFT positions. However, users who choose to unlock their vested tokens early will face a penalty under a linear burn mechanism, reducing their claimable amount to deter premature selling and stabilize supply.
To accommodate users unwilling to wait for vesting, Sonic will introduce a secondary NFT marketplace where airdrop positions can be traded freely.
In support of this system, Sonic has partnered with OpenBlock and Sentio for infrastructure and data monitoring. OpenBlock, which powers over $2 billion in rewards for major protocols like EigenLayer and Arbitrum, will guide incentive design. Meanwhile, Sentio will oversee real-time point tracking with its high-speed indexing tools.
While broadly available, the airdrop will exclude residents of sanctioned countries—including the United States—through geoblocking, user declarations, and discretionary wallet exclusions to meet compliance standards.
Adding further momentum to the ecosystem, Trust Wallet officially integrated support for Sonic’s native token, S, on March 3, 2025. Users can now send, receive, store, and track the token directly within the Trust Wallet mobile app, enhancing accessibility and utility.
