Midnight Society, the gaming studio co-founded by YouTube streamer Guy Beahm (“Dr Disrespect”), has officially shut down, marking the end of its NFT-driven shooter, Deadrop.
The studio announced its closure on January 30 via X, stating:
“Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years.”

Founded in 2021, Midnight Society set out to develop a highly interactive, community-driven multiplayer experience. Co-founded by Beahm, former Call of Duty developer Robert Bowling, and Halo designer Quinn Delhoyo, the studio initially funded Deadrop through NFT sales. Players could purchase Founders Access Passes, granting them early access to the game and exclusive NFT-based visors, which were tradable on platforms like OpenSea.
Deadrop was designed as an ambitious PvPvE extraction shooter set in an alternate world where “the 80s never ended.” However, despite three years of development and a team of over 55 developers, the game will never see an official release.
The project suffered major setbacks in 2024, following Beahm’s departure from the studio after allegations of inappropriate behaviour involving a minor on Twitch. The controversy, combined with a downturn in the NFT market, severely impacted the studio’s progress.
In their closing statement, the Midnight Society team expressed gratitude to their community while acknowledging their failure to reach their goals. They also pledged to assist their developers in finding new opportunities and encouraged those with job leads to reach out for direct introductions.
In contrast to Midnight Society’s closure, NFT game Chainers.io recently hosted a closed playtest for its multiplayer shooter, Chainers Arena Playtest. The free-to-play MMORPG was inspired by Minecraft and powered by its proprietary Polygon sidechain. It has already distributed over 25 million NFTs and built a community of more than 350,000 players.
