Norwegian luxury cruise operator SeaDream Yacht Club has taken a significant step in modernizing its payment options by accepting over 200 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), for its voyages and full-yacht charters.
The announcement, made at the 2025 WAGMI Blockchain Conference in Miami, cements SeaDream’s position as a pioneer in the cruise industry. According to the company, this move makes it the first luxury cruise operator to fully integrate cryptocurrency as a payment method across all its services.
To facilitate these payments, SeaDream Yacht Club has partnered with Coinbase Commerce, an on-chain payment processor by U.S.-based crypto exchange Coinbase.
The cruise line has also introduced a dedicated digital payment system for cryptocurrency on its official website. This new feature, set to integrate with the existing booking platform in the coming weeks, will enable hassle-free transactions for everything from individual bookings to full yacht charters.
SeaDream claimed that adopting crypto payments will help it eliminate currency exchange barriers and offer a seamless experience for international guests.
SeaDream’s President and CEO, Andreas Brynestad, emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative, citing growing demand among clientele for cryptocurrency payment options.
“The ability to use cryptocurrency further adds to the convenience and flexibility of our discerning charter guests, eliminating currency exchange challenges and enabling seamless transactions,”
Brynestad stated.
Meanwhile, SeaDream’s adoption of cryptocurrency is part of a broader trend within the travel and hospitality industry. Bybit recently partnered with Entravel, a crypto-native hotel booking platform, to provide discounted luxury travel options. Bybit cardholders were offered up to 6% cashback on bookings.
In December 2024, Florida-based cruise line Virgin Voyages began accepting Bitcoin for cruise bookings, and passengers could use it to pay for trips across Virgin’s fleet. Similarly, in September, blockchain-focused travel agency Travala collaborated with Skyscanner to offer crypto-based bookings for over 2.2 million hotels worldwide.
