EigenLayer has introduced its new Protocol Council to enhance platform security and manage the review process for EigenLayer Improvement Proposals.
The newly established Protocol Council will be vital in guiding and overseeing the implementation of these features. By carefully evaluating proposed enhancements, the council aims to align improvements with the long-term goals of the protocol, promote growth within the ecosystem, and encourage innovation driven by the community. This approach ensures that all updates harmonize with the protocol’s objectives, foster ecosystem development, and enhance long-term value.
The foundation has also established the Eigen Council Telegram group to promote active community involvement in governance. This platform enables members to vote on proposals, share ideas, and play a crucial role in shaping the evolution of the protocol. Active participants are rewarded with EIGEN tokens, which encourage engagement and make the governance process interactive and rewarding.
EIGEN is a protocol on Ethereum that introduces a novel restaking feature, allowing users to utilize their staked ETH to secure the Ethereum network and other decentralized applications simultaneously to secure both the Ethereum network and other decentralized applications. This includes supporting transaction sequencers, oracles that provide real-world data, and data availability layers that ensure reliable access to information. EIGEN enhances decentralized applications’ potential while maximizing staked ETH’s utility.
In another development, ConsenSys’ blockchain infrastructure protocol, Infura, has partnered with EigenLayer to enhance its Decentralized Infrastructure Network (DIN). DIN is a decentralized “app store” for blockchain APIs, giving developers access to Ethereum, StarkNet, and ZKsync networks. This collaboration utilizes EigenLayer’s Actively Validated Service (AVS) framework to create a secure and decentralized marketplace for infrastructure services. EigenLayer’s restaking protocol allows holders of staked Ether to earn additional rewards by validating off-chain operations. Tom Hay from Infura emphasized that this partnership is crucial in advancing a permissionless Web3 infrastructure marketplace.
