The collection features limited-edition collectible patches that pay homage to Atari’s rich gaming history Each pack, priced at $15, contains one of seven newly designed patches or a vintage patch from the 1980s.
Buyers can unlock and view their digital collectibles before redeeming them for physical patches. However, the designs will remain a surprise until purchase, with bonus items revealed only upon redemption. Atari also stated that select buyers may receive bonus items, such as gift cards or a collectible signed by Atari founder Nolan Bushnell.
The NFTs are scheduled to go live in the last week of Janaury 2025. They will be available exclusively on DYLI protocol, which operates on Abstract Chain, an Ethereum layer-2 solution developed by Igloo Inc., the creators of Pudgy Penguins. The buyers will be able to hold the NFT packs indefinitely or trade them on DYLI’s secondary marketplace before redeeming them for physical collectibles.
Atari’s blockchain initiatives date back to 2018 with the launch of its cryptocurrency, ATRI. The company has since expanded its presence in the Web3 space, partnering with prominent players like Enjin and Litecoin. Last year, it partnered with Coinbase to debut Onchain Arcade, bringing classics like Asteroids and Breakout to Ethereum layer-2.
Atari is not alone in exploring blockchain technology. A NFT version of a soccer game based on the Japanese manga and anime series “Captain Tsubasa” launched officially on the Oasys blockchain in May 2024. The developers promised players a new kind of an immersive gaming experience
