Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and the crypto community are celebrating a major win in the 2024 U.S. presidential election as pro-crypto candidates secured key victories, including the re-election of Donald Trump.
Garlinghouse expressed his excitement via an X post on November 5, congratulating Bernie Moreno, Ritchie Torres, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Andy Barr. “To everyone who doubted it: the crypto voter is here to stay, loud and clear!” he wrote.
Moreno, a first-time Republican candidate, achieved a notable victory by defeating Ohio’s incumbent Senator Sherrod Brown, a vocal crypto sceptic. Democratic Senator Ritchie Torres from New York, along with incumbents Barr and Gillibrand, also won re-elections. Barr represents Kentucky District 6 in the U.S. House of Representatives, while Gillibrand serves as one of the senators representing New York.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong echoed the excitement, particularly emphasizing Moreno’s success in Ohio. Armstrong noted how Moreno’s win against Brown marked a significant shift, attributing it to the increasing influence of the “crypto voter” as a strong bipartisan force. He highlighted that this support across party lines underlines crypto’s growing role in U.S. politics.
Meanwhile, Coinbase Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal suggested these election outcomes might influence future crypto-friendly decisions from the U.S. Supreme Court. “I’m going to guess that at least a couple of Supreme Court Justices now feel free to make retirement plans,” he wrote in his X post.
However, not all results favoured the crypto community. Pro-XRP attorney John Deaton faced defeat against Senator Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts, marking a setback for crypto advocates in the Senate.
The elections followed Gemini’s “Global State of Crypto” report, which noted a growing focus on crypto policies among U.S. voters. The report found that 73% of respondents consider a candidate’s crypto stance important, with 37% saying it has a “significant impact” on their vote.
