Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings have now surpassed 1,000 BTC, placing it among the top 20 companies globally with major Bitcoin reserves, according to data from BitcoinTreasuries.
In an X post on October 28, the Tokyo-based investment firm announced its latest acquisition, 156.7 BTC bought at around 1.6 billion yen ($10.4 million). This purchase, the seventh in October alone, brings the firm’s total Bitcoin holdings to 1,018 BTC. Notably, this purchase is the seventeenth since April 2024, when it adopted a Bitcoin-only Treasury strategy.
Metaplanet’s recent purchase follows its adoption of “BTC Yield” as a key performance indicator, a metric inspired by MicroStrategy to evaluate its Bitcoin acquisition strategy. This measure tracks the percentage growth in Bitcoin holdings relative to the company’s fully diluted shares over time, aiming to bring greater transparency to its Bitcoin investment approach.
The firm reported a 155.8% yield on its holdings since the start of October, building on the 41.7% yield reported from July through September.
CEO Simon Gerovich highlighted that adopting the BTC Yield metric is intended to provide investors with a clearer understanding of how Bitcoin acquisitions enhance shareholder value. He explained,
“This KPI, pioneered by MicroStrategy, will help investors see how Metaplanet’s strategy of using equity capital for Bitcoin acquisitions benefits shareholders.”
Earlier this month, Metaplanet’s stock jumped by 15.7% following an announcement of a 107 BTC purchase, which brought its total holding to 855.5 BTC at the time, valued at $56.1 million. Shares traded at 1,105 yen ($7.38) on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, reflecting the market’s positive reaction.
Meanwhile, the firm disclosed on October 16 that it had repurchased 223 $62,000 put options from QCP Capital, a digital asset trading firm in Singapore, and subsequently sold 223 new contracts at a $66,000 strike price. This transaction generated 57.9 million yen ($387,640) in revenue from premium put options, which the firm records as part of its earnings.
